What does a Pastor’s Wife Do?
We all have different functions…
“For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.”
(Romans 12:4-5)
and different gifts.
“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.”
(Romans 12:6-8)
What does Scripture say?
Fun fact: there is nothing in Scripture instructing pastor wives to support their pastor husbands in specific ways.
All churches are different…
Where my church doesn’t expect me to take on a certain role as a pastor wife, there certainly are churches that want the pastor and his wife to work together as a package deal in the church. However your church chooses to do things it’s impossible for it to be the “best” because each pastor couple is different and called into different kinds of ministry.
and all pastor wives are too.
I know pastor wives that have separate careers, & pastor wives that work at the same church as their husband. There are some that don’t have kids & some that stay home with theirs. There are pastor wives who send their kids to school, and some that homeschool. There are even pastor wives that have different ministry purposes and goals than their husband - and we’re all pastor wives supporting our husbands in the best way for our marriage.
Get to know your pastor’s wife.
If you don’t know her well yet, get to know your pastor’s wife & see what makes her unique! We’ve all been called to ministry life with our husbands in different ways, and at different times in our lives - but one things for sure, we have some great stories about God’s provision and blessings (and some crazy random things) in each of our lives, and we never get tired of telling them.
